The Gallery Players has been presenting concerts in the Niagara Region for 18 years!
We began as an ensemble of four musicians, who were all working at Brock University in St. Catharines. Over the years our core musicians have moved in and out of the Niagara Region. Our musical success has meant musicians are willing to travel back from Toronto, Kitchener, Stratford and other Ontario communities (where they now live), to continue playing in the core ensemble. Our programming is unique, drawing upon the expertise of the players for performances of works of contemporary Canadian composers, the canon of classical chamber music, period-instrument performances and lesser-known works from all periods. Over the last 10 years we have commissioned 9 new Canadian works for various instrumental combinations. In 2009 we released our first CD entitled “Canadian Oboe Quartets”. All four compositions on the recording were commissioned by the
Gallery Players, and are all loosely based on Mozart’s Oboe Quartet.
This coming October (2012) the Eybler Quartet (all core members of the Gallery Players) will release their third CD with Analekta. The recording is Haydn’s Op. 33 string quartets. The other 2 earlier recordings can be found for sale on this website.
